Starion – Conquest Adjustable Strut Conversion

Okay. Everyone keeps asking us about converting the Adjustable strut cars to regular Tokico Inserts without having to buy new front strut housings and spindles. Here it is with proper visual aids.

We carry both the Standard Tokico Front and Rear struts and our Performance Valved Tokicos. The Performance valved struts have a stiffer rebound adjustment to keep the car settled under track and Auto-X use.

Nothing to do here. Just remove the old units and bolt on the new ones. They are complete struts so nothing needs to be modified.

Front:

Remove the original strut tubes from the car

Remove the springs

Unscrew the large gland nut at the top of the strut tube and remove the original strut. Do this over a trash can or bucket because a bunch of shock oil and other slimy stuff will come out when you break the seal

You will now need to remove the adjuster knob and valve from the side of the strut tube ( Picture 1).

We use a torch to do it but a grinder or carbide cut-off wheel will also work. Cut it away completely and make sure the new insert will slide in freely to the tube all the way to the bottom. (Picture 2)

Cut some scrap steel (A piece of tube cut in half works best.) and weld a patch over the hole in the strut tube. ( Picture 3) Any muffler shop can easily do this work for you and I am sure they would charge very little. With a torch and a MIG welder this is about a 20 minute job per strut tube.

Install the new strut inserts and bolt it all back together.
